463
Mayor Mercer requested that staff investigate to see what the City can do
about cleaning up the burned out Round Up Club on Main Street.

Mayor Mercer requested a report on the possible closing of Tennis Faire,
for consideration at the next Council meeting.

CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE REPORTS
Mohr House Report
Mrs. Bengtson presented her report (SR 87:117) dated March 17, 1987,
regarding this matter.

Councilmember Mohr stated the Non-profit Organization cannot proceed until
title to the house and land site is acquired, and that City Council approval
is needed in order to negotiate further regarding this matter.

Council discussion ensued relative to the best method to acquire the Mohr
house and land for the park, zoning and density of development surrounding the
park area, possible other sites for placement of the Mohr house, fire in-
surance, consultant to advise regarding restoration of the house, traffic cir-
culation, and protection of the house until the restoration project is
started.

Mr. Herb Singleton, 2207 Martin Avenue, stated he was not notified this
item would be on the agenda; he felt it should be continued until everyone in
the affected area is notified. He felt the expenditure of funds for a consul-
tant to look at the Mohr house on its present site could be biased; he felt
the site should be pursued more carefully before any other decision is made.
He also felt it should not be overlooked that the residents in this area have
been told time and time again that the area would remain rural; he felt to
have a park with parking lot and increased traffic is a departure from rural
and is not consistent with the surrounding property. He requested this item
be continued until all residents in the Mohr-Martin area have been notified so
that there will be a better representation from the neighborhood.

Mrs. Donna McMillion, 4454 Shearwater, member of the Non-profit steering
committee, thanked the City Council for their support of this project and
urged them to continue in order to preserve this rich historical heritage
house, which will also fill a need in providing a facility for community use.

Mr. A1Weimken, Mohr-Martin area, stated he has concerns about the founda-
tion of the house. He felt the location of the house was not the most ideal
site for it. He expressed concern regarding the traffic circulation pattern,
stating that this project will greatly increase traffic. He stated he felt
this project should wait until after completion of the Stoneridge Drive
specific plan in order to better determine circulation patterns.

Mr. Glenn Hulett, 2201 Martin Avenue, stated he is concerned about the
number of cars that will be passing in front of his house because of this
project; when he bought the house he was told this was a rural atmosphere.

After discussion, it was moved by Councilmember Wilson, and seconded by
Councilmember Mohr, that Resolution No. 87-114, allocating $10,000.00 to hire
a historic building restoration specialist to evaluate and refine the renova-
tion cost estimate and to develop a renovation work program and timeline;
staff be directed to determine what it would take to acquire the Mohr house
and the property under and around the Mohr house; Mohr house be secured and

- 4 3-17-87
