Ms. Barbara Van Slyke, 5755 San Antonio, President of the VIP's Club,
stated that senior citizens have greatly benefitted from the facilities and
staff provided by the City. She asked for continued Council support of the
senior citizens by approving the proposed senior center program. She request-
ed those in the audience to stand who were in support of the program - ap-
proximately 75 people stood.

Mr. Jarrett Johnson, Human Services Commission and member of the Senior
Citizen Task Force, urged Council to support staff recommendations for approv-
al of the Senior Center Program.

Mr. Bruce Fiedler, Housing Authority Commissioner, stated the Housing Au-
thority Commissioners unanimously and enthusiastically support the construc-
tion of a Senior Center for Pleasanton with the space and facilities outlined
in the planning documents attached to the staff report. He urged this project
be approved and given a high-priority, fast-track completion.

Mr. Walker advised that financing is being considered at this time for
construction of the new Corporation Yard; and that financing for the Senior
Center will probably be on the next Proposition 4 Election. Construction
could begin as early as July 1, 1988, with a completion date at the end of
1989.

It was moved by Councilmember Brandes, and seconded by Councilmember Mohr,
that Resolution No. 87-290, approval of the Pleasanton Senior Center Program
of Building Requirements as submitted by Group4/Architecture, Research and
Planning, Inc; allocating an additional $38,792.00 from Proposition 4 Funds
generated by Park Dedication Fees to the project; and directing staff to pro-
ceed with Task II targeting the present corporation yard as the site for the
Pleasanton Senior Center, be adopted.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmember Brandes, Mohr, Wilson, and Mayor Mercer
NOES: None
ABSNT: Councilmember Butler

SPECIAL AND INFORMATIONAL REPORTS (Contd.)

Mayor Mercer stated the following two items would be considered at the
same time:

Minor Modification to Z-83-192, Callahan, Sweeney, and O'Brien (Z-87-299)

Mr. Swift presented his report (IR 87:71) dated July 7, 1987, regarding
this matter.

Proposed Municipal Courthouse in Hacienda Business Park
Mr. Swift presented his report (IR 87:72) dated July 1, 1987, regarding
this matter.

Councilmember Brandes stated he felt it is appropriate for consideration
of the proposed municipal courthouse in Hacienda Business Park to go through
the normal process; he considers it a major modification and change in the
business park use.

217

5 - 7-7-87
