No action was required or taken by Council on the item. <br /> <br />MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCILMEMBERS <br />Item 6a <br />Discussion of Signalization or Stop Signs at the intersection of Valley Avenue <br />and Via De Los Milagros <br /> Councilmember Brandes stated he asked that this item be placed on the <br />agenda at the request of concerned residents in the area. He added that he <br />has observed the need for traffic control at this intersection and feels ac- <br />tion should be taken as soon as possible. <br /> <br /> Mr. Tom Knoll, President of the Country Faire Homeowners Association, <br />stated this matter is of great concern to residents in this area as well as <br />the Barrett Development. He stated that because of development there has been <br />an increase in foot traffic as well as vehicle traffic. He stated that a <br />petition drive was started last September after a serious pedestrian accident <br />on Valley Avenue; the citizens want to avoid a similar situation. He added <br />there is also increased traffic from commuters coming off 1-680 going to <br />Hacienda Business Park. <br /> <br /> Mr. Knoll presented a petition to Council, signed by 145 homeowners, which <br />read as follows: <br /> <br /> "Whereas: the continued increase of traffic thru the intersections <br /> of Valley Blvd. & Via De Los Milagros, and, Valley Blvd. & Hopyard <br /> Blvd., and <br /> <br /> "Whereas: the final completion of the new Pleasanton tennis center & <br /> park at this same general location has significantly increased <br /> pedestrian traffic across Valley Blvd. from the Country Fair tracts <br /> as well as increased pedestrian and auto traffic from surrounding <br /> neighborhoods, and <br /> <br /> "Whereas: this increasing use of the park and its facilities from <br /> the residents of the surrounding neighborhoods is creating a dan- <br /> gerous situation for children crossing Valley to enter or leaving <br /> the park from a heavily traveled thoroughfare within the City of <br /> Pleasanton, and <br /> <br /> "Whereas: traffic on Valley Blvd. will continue to increase as South <br /> Bay commuters travel to/from their jobs in the fast growing Hacienda <br /> Business Park, and <br /> <br /> "Whereas: a recent near fatality has occurred near this same area on <br /> Valley Blvd. with a child partially disabled, therefore: <br /> <br /> 4 - 5-3-88 <br /> <br /> <br />
