157 <br /> <br />(2) whether or not the current City ordinance has the appropriate <br />conditions for reviewing cardroom procedures. <br /> <br /> After discussion, it was moved by Councilmember Butler, and, <br />seconded by Councilmember Brandes, instructing staff to prepare a <br />report regarding options available to have a licensed cardroom and <br />whether or not the current ordinance is adequate to control a <br />cardroom if allowed; and further instructing the Police Chief not <br />to take action on any cardroom permit until Council makes a <br />decision on the cardroom ordinance. <br />The roll call vote was as follows: <br />AYES: Councilmembers Brandes, Butler, Mohr, Wilson, and Mayor <br /> Mercer <br />NOES: None <br />ABSENT: None <br /> <br /> Mr. Robert Kahn, Attorney representing the owners of the <br />Pastime Pool, requested to have input into the report relative to <br />the cardroom permit. Mayor Mercer advised him to get his comments <br />to staff by Wednesday before the meeting of the City Council to <br />consider this item. <br /> <br /> After further discussion, Mayor Mercer instructed staff to <br />place this matter on the Council agenda of October 4, 1988. <br /> <br />item 6b <br />Joint Meetinq - School Board, City Council, and Park and <br />Recreation Commission, September 22, 1988 <br /> Mayor Mercer stated that the School District has requested to <br />meet with the City Council and Park and Recreation Commission to <br />discuss the City participating in providing gyms at junior high <br />schools. He advised that there is a fund raiser on the evening of <br />September 22nd, but that it would be over by 8:00 p.m. After <br />discussion, Council determined to start the joint meeting at 8:15 <br />p.m., in the Council Chambers. <br /> <br />item 6c <br />Request for City Participation in United Effort Aqainst Substance <br />Abuse <br /> Mr. Chuck Eddinger, Co-Chairman of Citizens Against Substance <br />Abuse, stated that this group has assembled many community leaders <br />to help fight against substance abuse. He stated their immediate <br />need is $5,000 to purchase the materials for Red Ribbon Week, a <br />week to inform the public of the anti-substance abuse program in <br />Pleasanton. <br /> <br /> It was moved by Councilmember Butler, and seconded by <br />Councilmember Wilson, that Resolution No. 88-428, appropriating <br />$5,000 to the Valley Citizens Against Substance Abuse Program, to <br />purchase materials for Red Ribbon Week, October 23-30, 1988, be <br />adopted. <br /> <br /> - 6 - <br /> <br /> 9-6-88 <br /> <br /> <br />
