187

attach the structure to the house as the house as a side entrance
door which is frequently used.

Mr. Daniel Marks, 1781 Courtney Avenue, stated he has no
opposition to the proposed structure; houses in this area are on
large lots and need storage space. He stated the gentleman next
door to the Browns has a shed next to the fence in his yard.

Mrs. Ann Frawley, 1742 Equestrian Drive, stated she does not
find the proposed building offensive; the structure will not
detract from the aesthetics of the neighborhood. A house four
doors down has a similar structure; what is fair for one should be
fair for all. She would like to think the residents have the
option of doing what they want on their own property, since the
lots are of large size.

Mr. Ken Zotti, 3710 Cameron Avenue, stated he is in favor of
the addition; he does not feel it will harm the neighborhood.

Mr. Tom Schutter, 1707 Equestrian Drive, who lives next door,
stated he is concerned about the location of the structure. He
stated the proposed structure is larger than a two car garage and
would adversely impact the open space atmosphere. He advised that
the other similar structure is two blocks away and on a one acre
lot, and was approved before anyone else had moved into the area.
He opposed the planting of large trees as it will block out the
sunshine, and the tree limbs and roots will be a problem in his
yard. He presented renderings of how the proposed structure would
adversely impact his property. He stated he would not be opposed
to a smaller structure; but the proposed structure is too large.
He stated he does have a small structure in his yard but it is not
obstrusive to anyone.

Mr. Ron Thein, 1714 Equestrian Drive, stated the neighborhood
is a low density area with an emphasis on open space. He felt the
proposed structure is not compatible with the surrounding
neighborhood; it creates an unsightly atmosphere and is too
massive. He did not feel that the requirement of additional
landscaping would adequately screen the structure. He stated he
is also concerned about the height of the structure. He stated
there are six homeowners directly that will be directed affected
by the proposed structure; three are opposed to it, one remained
neutral, and two are in favor of it. He added that the Design
Review Board voted in opposition to the application. He urged
Council to be sensitive to the open area and also vote in
opposition to the proposed structure.

Mrs. Norma Valenzuela, 1768 Equestrian Drive, stated she
opposes the proposed structure; she experienced a similar
situation in a previous house and found it very offensive. She
does not mind something to shelter a boat but her concern is the
number of structures and the setting of a precedent. She stated
the people who support the Browns do not live in the immediate
area.

- 17 - 1-17-89
