373

Mr. Bill Northend, 242 Tomas Way, indicated his support for
keeping City Hall in the downtown area. He said that the downtown
area is very sensitive where minor issues become big things. City
Hall is the heart of the downtown area and completes the picture
of the City of Pleasanton. Furthermore, City Hall is the
destination of many people, and it encourages them to do business
downtown.

Ms. Nancy Kastaneck, 5438 Black Avenue, stated that she is an
employee of the City's Public Works Inspection Division, working
neither at 123 Main Street nor 200 Old Bernal, but at a leased
space on 205 Main Street. She mentioned that citizens continually
get lost looking for City offices and confused about which City
officials work in which building. It is very inconvenient for
City employees to go from one building to another, especially when
it rains; they would like to work together in one facility.

Mr. Nick Cassens indicated that he has been working for
Kaiser for the past 18 years and that he would like to see City
Hall move to that facility. He added that it is close to the
downtown area, and moving City Hall will not separate it from
downtown Pleasanton.

Mr. Richard Riley, 5576 Sonoma Drive, stated that he is in
favor of the purchase. As Sunol Blvd. develops, the City would
have more control over the City and could direct people to the
downtown area. It would likewise give the City employees a better
place to work in.

Mr. Gene Finch, 8019 Jorgensen Lane, mentioned that he owns
property in the downtown area and supports the community as a
whole. He pointed out that the City built the new Police
Department and Library in the present Civic Center. He asked the
Council to identify with the community and consider the human
element involved, which cannot be quantified into dollars and
cents.

Mr. Bill Laube, 5428 Pleasant Hill Road, stated that moving
City Hall to a site overlooking the freeway is contrary to what
Pleasanton is. He asked Council to keep City Hall at the center
of the City and support the downtown area.

Mr. Ed Churka, 507 St. John, a downtown business owner, said
that moving City Hall out of the heart of town without a plan to
enhance the downtown is shortsighted on the part of the City. He
suggested that the City come up with the plan and present it to
the public.

Mr. Robert Cordtz, 262 West Angela Street, a downtown
business owner, indicated that he was in favor of the purchase.

-13 -
10-3-89
