329 Item 12b City Manager Recruitment Mr. Walker presented his report (SR 89:415) regarding the matter. Mr. Mercer stated that he agreed with Mr. Walker's recommendation to delay the recruitment of the Fire Chief until the City Manager is selected; that way, the new Fire Chief would be selected by the new City Manager. He added that he would like to hire Ralph Anderson and Associates to conduct the City Manager recruitment. It was moved by Mr. Butler, and seconded by Ms. Mohr, that Resolution No. 89-407 be approved, hiring Ralph Anderson and Associates to conduct the City Manager recruitment and to appropriate the funds therefor. The roll call vote was as follows: AYES: Councilmembers Brandes, Butler, Mohr, Tarver and Mayor Mercer NOES: None ABSENT: None ABSTAIN: None Item 12c Consideration for the Purchase of Building on Sunol Boulevard for a Civic Center Mr. Walker presented his report (SR 89:407) regarding the matter. Ms. Judith Mayhew recalled that a few years back, the School District proposed to build their district office at a property it owned in Mission Park, and the City requested the District not to do so because the General Plan of the City was to keep all civic buildings in the downtown area. She commented that the Kaiser Center is very attractive and inquired how much of the property would go with the building. Mr. Walker replied that the City is considering the building and sufficient parking space. The pond, grass and landscaping would be committed to stay as they are. Mr. Mercer stated that the Kaiser manager had received proposals from different firms for both office and residential development and that he was considering dividing the building up because Kaiser needs to retain ownership of some of the buildings since not all its people are moving out. The Council decided to make this public before coming up with any decision, which is due by the next Council meeting. -15- 9-19-89
