Previously, during the
regular season, the family pass covered lap swimmers as well as
recreational swimmers. Under the new policy, the family pass
covers only recreational swimming. There is a separate fee for
lap swimmers of $27 for 15 swims.

Ms. Bengtson explained that the Aquatic Center season has
been extended several months when the primary use of the pool is
lap swimming more than recreational swimming. The family pass was
designed to allow family members to come as a group at a
reasonable rate. For some time, the family pass included lap
swimming, which did not form a large part of the business. The
City subsidizes the heating, utility and maintenance costs of the
pool program; but the operational budget of the program is covered
by program fees.
