494 Item 13b Initiation of an Amendment to the City's Political Campaiqn Sign Ordinance to Delete the Prohibition of Postinq a Political Campaiqn Siqn More Than 30 Days Prior to an Election; Companion Resolution Urqinq All Candidates to Continue to Comply with 30 Day Restriction Mr. Roush presented his report (SR 90:370) regarding the matter. Mr. Butler stated that he was reluctant to amend the ordinance and that he anticipated that the local candidates would want to comply with the 30-day requirement. He noted that only the time limitation of the ordinance was challenged and that all the other requirements of the ordinance were still in place. Mr. Mercer commented that Mr. Wallack and Mr. Stark already have their signs up. He suggested that a letter be sent to them indicating the Council's position on the matter. Mr. Tarvet concurred. Mr. Swift stated that the Planning staff has sent a letter to the sign company to remove all the campaign signs that project over the public right-of-way. It was moved by Mr. Butler, and seconded by Ms. Mohr, that Resolution No. 90-178 be adopted, initiating an amendment to Section 18.96.100 of the Pleasanton Municipal Code concerning the posting of political campaign signs prior to an election. The roll call vote was as follows: AYES: Councilmembers Butler, Mohr, Tarver and Mayor Mercer NOES: None ABSENT: Councilmember Brandes ABSTAIN: None It was moved by Mr. Butler, and seconded by Ms. Mohr, that Resolution No. 90-179 be adopted, urging all candidates and their supporters to continue not posting political campaign signs more than 30 days prior to the election.
