494 <br /> <br /> Item 13b <br /> Initiation of an Amendment to the City's Political Campaiqn Sign <br /> Ordinance to Delete the Prohibition of Postinq a Political Campaiqn <br /> Siqn More Than 30 Days Prior to an Election; Companion Resolution <br /> Urqinq All Candidates to Continue to Comply with 30 Day Restriction <br /> <br /> Mr. Roush presented his report (SR 90:370) regarding the <br /> matter. <br /> <br /> Mr. Butler stated that he was reluctant to amend the ordinance <br /> and that he anticipated that the local candidates would want to <br /> comply with the 30-day requirement. He noted that only the time <br /> limitation of the ordinance was challenged and that all the other <br /> requirements of the ordinance were still in place. <br /> <br /> Mr. Mercer commented that Mr. Wallack and Mr. Stark already <br /> have their signs up. He suggested that a letter be sent to them <br /> indicating the Council's position on the matter. <br /> <br /> Mr. Tarvet concurred. <br /> <br /> Mr. Swift stated that the Planning staff has sent a letter to <br /> the sign company to remove all the campaign signs that project over <br /> the public right-of-way. <br /> <br /> It was moved by Mr. Butler, and seconded by Ms. Mohr, that <br /> Resolution No. 90-178 be adopted, initiating an amendment to <br /> Section 18.96.100 of the Pleasanton Municipal Code concerning the <br /> posting of political campaign signs prior to an election. <br /> The roll call vote was as follows: <br /> AYES: Councilmembers Butler, Mohr, Tarver and Mayor Mercer <br /> NOES: None <br /> ABSENT: Councilmember Brandes <br /> ABSTAIN: None <br /> <br /> It was moved by Mr. Butler, and seconded by Ms. Mohr, that <br /> Resolution No. 90-179 be adopted, urging all candidates and their <br /> supporters to continue not posting political campaign signs more <br /> than 30 days prior to the election. <br /> The roll call vote was as follows: <br /> AYES: Councilmembers Butler, Mohr, Tarver and Mayor Mercer <br /> NOES: None <br /> ABSENT: Councilmember Brandes <br /> ABSTAIN: None <br /> <br /> 14.
