213

The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Butler, Mohr, Scribner, Tarver, and Mayor
Mercer
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

5. MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Water Issue, Arroyo Trails, and Street Safety

Mr. Stanley Rathbone, 325 Ray Street, stated that the water
issue should be discussed in all environmental reports. He added
that having trails on the Arroyo, which he has opposed for the past
seven years, allows children to go down the creek and to cause
accidents such as the recent fire by the old railroad tracks. He
also expressed concern about accidents which may be caused by
joggers, bikers and skateboard riders who disregard traffic
signals.

Pleasanton Girls' Softball Leaque

Mr. Bob Boni, 3230 Omega Circle, President of Pleasanton
Girls' Softball League, indicated that the League has saved $20,000
during the past three years towards the building of a snack bar,
which would eventually serve as a main source of income for the
League. He stated that the snack bar would both support the League
and pay for the older girls who serve as umpires for the younger
girls' games. He added that the League is committed to the City;
it has donated a tree to the City and helped put up a bleachers
section on the field. He requested Council to include the balance
of the cost of the snack bar in the City's Capital Improvement
Project (CIP) Budget for the next fiscal year.

Mr. Mercer stated that the City has built snack bars for the
Boys' Leagues and that these snack bars generate a substantial
amount of revenue for the Leagues. He added that the Girls' League
now has 900 members and is asking the City to provide the balance
to their $20,000 to build a snack bar. He requested Staff to
prepare a report on where a snack bar could be built and how much
it would cost. The Park and Recreation Commission would then
consider the report and present its recommendations to the Council,
which would determine whether or not the project would be included
in the CIP Budget. Mr. Mercer then informed Mr. Boni that Staff
would let him know when the matter would come before the Park and
Recreation Commission and the City Council.

- 3 -
6-4-91
