227

8. MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCILMEMBERS
Item 8a
Consideration of "Pleasanton, Our Community" as Honorary Pleasanton
Sonq (SR 91:216)

Ms. Scribner commented that she has not heard the song and
requested a copy of the words. She suggested that one class attend
a Council meeting to sing it.

Ms. Acosta stated that a class from Alisal School had offered
to sing it at this meeting but that it was not practical because of
the items on the Agenda. She added that the students will be out
of school by the next Council meeting.

Mr. Mercer stated that Channel 30 tapes Alisal School's yearly
presentation of "Pleasanton, Our Community" and requested the
Channel 30 Staff present at the meeting to check if a copy would be
available for Ms. Scribner to view.

Mr. Butler commented that he was not in favor of having a City
song when the request first came before the Council about five
years ago. However, because Pleasanton schools have adopted the
song since then, he does not see any reason why the song should not
be adopted by the City, as well.

Ms. Mohr stated that the reason she requested at the last
Council meeting that this item be put on the Agenda was to give the
community an opportunity to present other songs. She added that
since no suggestions were made, she did not see any problem with
adopting the song.

It was moved by Mr. Butler, and seconded by Mr. Mercer, that
Resolution No. 91-89 be adopted, approving "Pleasanton, Our
Community" as an Honorary City of Pleasanton Song, as set forth in
the Staff Report.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Butler, Mohr, Scribner, Tarver and Mayor
Mercer
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

- 17 -
6-4-91
