50

Centennial Committee Report '

Mr. Brad Hirst, 2456 Minivet Court, Pleasanton representing
the Centennial Celebration Committee presented a status report on
the progress of the plans for the 100th anniversary of the City on
June 18, 1994. The committee has been hard at work for over a year
now and one of the objectives has been to involve as many of the
citizens of Pleasanton as possible, particularly the school age
citizens. The logo contest was won by an 18 year old Pleasanton
High School student who received a $500 cash award and a Remington
reproduction. The committee has designed a three tier curriculum
for the use in the schools over a three year period. Grants have
been awarded to three teachers to write a history of Pleasanton
which will be utilized in the elementary, middle school and high
school levels. It is anticipated that it will be on-going through
1995. The cost of it is being picked up by the Tri-Valley Fund.
Many people and many groups are stepping forward and want to
participate. There will be a minimum of two performing arts
performances, one being a play on Pleasanton and the other being a
music festival utilizing the talents of Pleasanton residents. The
Stoneridge Shopping Center has agreed to a Centennial Celebration
promotion. Heritage families will be utilized. There will be a
street dance and a City-wide barbecue. Heritage Days in 1994 will
be moved to the weekend of June 18 and 19. The ultimate birthday
party will take place at the Alameda County Fairgrounds on June 18,
1994. An upcoming project which should be underway by Octoberl2th
is an eight foot trailway being constructed under the Valley Avenue
overcrossing by volunteers. The object is to create a trail along
the creek from Main Street to the Arroyo De LaLaguna at Interstate
680. Another update will be presented in three or four months.

Ridqelands Executive Committee

Becky Dennis, 838 Grey Fox Circle, Pleasanton indicated that
Council should have a copy of a letter sent to the Ridgelands
Executive Committee on September 25, 1991 by herself and Peggy
Purnell, stating that Chris Meidl works for the law firm of
Hallgrimson, McNichols, McCann & Inderbitzen. This letter voiced
the concerns of the appropriateness of Mr. Meidl serving as the
chairperson for the parks and recreation subcommittee while
simultaneously being employed by the law firm which represents
Amador Land and Cattle. In areas where the interests of the public
and Amador Land and Cattle conflict, Mrs. Dennis felt it would be
impossible for Mr. Meidl to effectively argue for the public
interests because of professional obligations to his firm's
clients.

10-01-91 4
