17

Sharon Church, 2255 Segunda Court #4, also shared her support
by adding that she was raised in Pleasanton and would love to see
the train come to the town.

Richard Gill, 5550 Niles Canyon Boulevard, Vice President of
the Pacific Locomotive Association, addressed the question
regarding the light-rail track. He stated that it is the same
gauge; however, they did not intend on bringing a light rail track
which requires overhead wires and different kinds of signaling.

Ms. Mohr asked for clarification on the' elevation of the
tracks.

Mr. Gill replied that BART is heavy rail and elevated and
light rail is a trolley type surface. That is what makes BART
different from a light rail system because BART is completely
isolated from grade crossing.

Lily Swift, 2512 WillowTen Way, spoke in favor of the train
and asked that the train come to Pleasanton. She and her sisters
have ridden the train in Sunol and really enjoyed it.

Gary Schwaegerle, 189 W. Angela Street, was in support of the
train. He had a petition of 307 signatures from the local
merchants and citizens which was given to the City Clerk. He spoke
on behalf of the Downtown Association and indicated that it
supports this item. He complimented Ms. Scribner on the great job
that she and the Downtown Task Force have been doing. He concluded
by stating that it would be a great attraction if this could be in
place prior to the Main Street construction which is scheduled.

Jack Kruger, 7356 Lynwood Court, moved from New York to
Pleasanton in 1986 and was horrified at the condition of the old
train station. He shared his support of the project. He stated
~hat you would know what the trains could mean to Pleasanton if you
looked at the success of Coffee Roast Express.

Joanne Bruner, 4931 Monaco Drive, explained the reason her
family moved to Pleasanton five years ago was because of the
downtown area. She commended Mr. Churka's effort to revitalize the
history of this area. She thought it was a great idea to bring the
trains back on a weekend basis.

Eric Hoff, 262 Kottinger Drive, stated that he was the first
person to take a lease out on the train station. Since then, they
have cleaned up the station and have tried to remove the two cars
on County property. He fully supported Mr. Churka regarding
keeping the trains there.

Robert Cortz, 262 W. Angela, commented that he supported the
train coming to Pleasanton. He referred to the staff report

1/7/92
17
