12

She suggested using an alternative me=hod, such as a stop sign on
Bordeaux only and posting 25 mph signs, and should that not work
then other alternatives could be addressed.

Betty Broquet, 3402 Arbor Drive, spoke in favor of placing a
stop sign on Bordeaux Street but was opposed to placing a sign on
Arbor Drive. She supported staff recommendation.

Christine Williams, 1138 Bordeaux Street, spoke in favor of
placing stop signs at Arbor Drive and Bordeaux Street. She
empathized with the previous speakers but explained that she was
greatly concerned with the safety of the children. She pointed out
that there were several children who walked from school on these
streets and some who had to cross them. She related a few
incidents when children were almost hit by fast moving cars.

Jan Hanger, Arbor Drive, read a letter from Carrie Medeiros
which indicated her supp0r~ of placing the proposed stop signs.
Ms. Hanger suggested that the City provide a route for the children
to walk or ride bikes to school. She believed that there should be
a stop sign placed at the end of Bordeaux.

Mr. Tarver believed there should be stop signs at the proposed
locations because they would slow the traffic down.

Mr. Butler stated that he originally voted against placing
these stop signs at these locations and that he had not changed his
opinion. He felt that there should be more studies done on placing
crosswalks in areas and finding better ways to get the children to
the schools.

It was moved by Mr. Tarver, and seconded by Ms. Scribner, that
Resolution No. 92-90 be adopted, approving a three-way stop sign on
Arbor Drive and Bordeaux Street.

The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Mohr, Scribner, Tarver and Mayor Mercer
NOES: Councilmember Butler
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

Item 7b
ConSider Request of Kottinqer Ranch Homeowner's Association for 3-
WaY Stop Signs at Hearst Drive/Remillard Court; 4-Way Stop Siqns a~
Hearst Drive/Concord Street; and 4-Way Stop Signs at
Concord/Bordeaux Street (SR92:180)

Dr. Jody Servatius, 1392 Bordeaux Street, expressed her
concern with the traffic and safety of her neighborhood. She
supported the proposed stop signs being placed at these corners but
especially spoke in concern of the corner of Concord and Bordeaux.
She welcomed any suggestions to control speeding drivers.

5/5/92 12
