102

It was moved by Ms. Mohr, seconded by Mr. Pico, to direct
staff to bring back drawings to reflect the new design at a cost
not to exceed $3,000.
The vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Mohr, Pico, Scribner, and Mayor Tarver
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

At 9:30 p.m. Council adjourned for a five minute break.

1A. Clarification of Council Position for Convention and Visitors
Bureau "Buy a Brick" material and location. (SR 93:74)

Ms. Scribner asked if the City intends to purchase the
material and donate it to the Convention and Visitors Bureau for
engraving and sale. She also inquired if the cobblestones will be
used.

Mr. Iserson thought the City would purchase the material. He
further stated the cobblestones cannot be engraved due to their
surface.

John Walters, 5990 Stoneridge Mall Road, for the Convention
and Visitors Bureau, indicated the Convention and Visitors Bureau
will purchase the material, have it engraved, and donate the bricks
to the City. The first choice is in front of the Museum and the
second choice is at Wayside Park. The Convention and Visitors
Bureau estimates it will sell 5,000 bricks. He indicated the best
material for engraving is a 3 X 8 paving brick, which can be any
color, including one which would match the cobblestones at the
corners.

Brian Dutchover, 5579 San Antonio, urged Council to adopt the
program and let the Convention and Visitors Bureau and City staff
work out the details.

Shelby Martin pointed out that the Convention and Visitors
Bureau adopted this plan last year after the City Council urged it
to become more self-supporting.

Ruby Greer indicated the program was a great concept and could
draw people downtown.

There being no further testimony, the public hearing was
closed.

02/23/93 6
