69

There was discussion regarding the number of bricks that could
be sold by the Convention and Visitors Bureau and where the bricks
would be located.

Ms. Mohr asked if the vented utility box covers could be
painted if they are not covered by the cobblestones. Mr. Swift
said yes.

Mr. Pico indicated his desire to have the bulb-out simulated
at the corner where the stop sign test would be done.

Mr. Tarver suggested the bulb-outs at the corners and the
pop-outs for street trees be eliminated.

Mr. Gary Schwagerle, 189 West Angela Street, submitted a
letter with his concerns regarding downtown. He suggested leaving
the new concrete and adding to it to widen the street. The
existing concrete could be painted to match. He discussed the use
of bricks. Mr. Schwagerle was opposed to the bulb-outs due to
concerns for ease of parking and street cleaning. He further
indicated his concerns regarding the need for additional parking.

Mr. Brian Dutchover, 5579 San Antonio, indicated he was
encouraged by the progress of the downtown reconstruction project
and thanked everyone for their efforts. He was concerned that any
postponement at this point would cause the project to be canceled.
He objected to elements of the design being brought back for
discussion at this point. He encouraged use of the Design Review
Board to coordinate any beautification projects for downtown.

Mr. Gary Dove, 5267 Meadowwood Court, indicated he was a
member of the Downtown Task Force and reminded Council that public
input was a major factor in all the workshops. Planning has been
going on for two years and he expressed concern that the project
would be stopped. All the issues that are being raised now have
been discussed at length and there will always be people who do not
like changes. He urged Council not to revisit the issues and to
move on with with plan.

Mr. Steven Hunter, 5620 Springhouse Drive, clarified that the
Convention and Visitors Bureau would be attempting to sell three to
five thousand bricks. There would be approximately 1,000 bricks in
front of the museum.

Ms. Dagmar Fulton, 666 Division Street, expressed her
dissatisfaction with the proposed Main Street plan. She wanted to
maintain the historic ambiance. Ms. Fulton was opposed to widening
the sidewalks because it would make the street too narrow. She was
also opposed to the trees in the street pop-outs. She urged
Council to reconsider the plan.

01/19/93 19
