Funding - 6

tax revenue to the General Fund in 1991. We did a survey of
the attendees to the Goodguys Car Show and ~ound that the
average expenditure per person at that event was $151 per day
(the national average is $157.00). With average hotel rates
in the area o~ about $68.80, the average guest actually
spends more outside the hotel than at the hotel. This means
there is sales tax generated on $83.ee per guest not
including the T.O.T. collected. The CVB cut its request for
city funds by 36% in 1992-93. We have the commitment of our
members who voted a 25% increase in their dues for 1993-94.
The T.O.T. increased $53,635.~e and over 3.6% in 1993 and it
continues to increase. We feel the city should commit

~the resources we have asked for so the CVB can
continue to help increase the tax base for the city. The
entire city benefits when business does well. The

hospitality business employs over 2,eee people in Pleasanton
and contributes over 11/2 million dollars to the General
Fund through the T.O.T. The T.O.T. alone represents the 4th
largest revenue producing area for the city. The hotels
alone add $187,e73.~e in property taxes each year to this
figure plus sales tax. It becomes readily apparent how the
travel industry has become the third largest retail business
in the United States, generating over $50 billion dollars per
year in federal, state and local tax revenue. The C~;B is a
key player in the future success of the industry here and our
