24

lVLr. Pico shared his concern with this matter and suggest~l that citizens contact the
Governor and County officials

Mayor Tarver beAieved that the State, counties and cities need to agree on where the
revenues are to come from for such services. He would like to know if this cuthack is a result
of the County's not bah~rtcing last year's budget. Mayor Tarver suggested that the citizens
contact their State Representatives and County Supervisors regarding this matter. It was agreed
Mayor Tarvet would draft a letter to the Board Supervisors regarding the City' s position on this
matter.

Mr. Roush advised that the Sheriff (or his representative) may be issuing a letter
indicating that one of the reasons for some of the sho_rffall has to do with the fact that ceratin
cities, including Pleasanwn, have not paid the booking fees. The City is in litigation with the
County over the legality of the booking fees as well as the mount of the fee. However, the
City has paid the County $270,000 in booking fees.

An unidentified speaker indicated her objection to the elimination of crossing guards due
to budget constraints.

Mayor Tarver eXp|s~ined tha~ a decision would not be made on Item 7d, Report on
Sefvic, e Levels, this evening. A workshop will be set up in June/July to begin discussion on
these issues.

Ms. Acosta pointed out that this document was prepared with a number of alternatives
to consider. There is plenty of time to consider the alternatives before making decisions.

5.
