Ms. Michelotti asked about the total square footage.

Ms. Ayala asked about the hours of construction. She would like the construction hours
longer, so the project could be completed sooner.

Ms. Dennis felt the construction hours should not change. She did not want to disturb
people any earlier in the morning and that the construction should be cleaned up before the peak
hour traffic in the afternoon. She has heard comments that people like the taller buildings in the
downtown area. She felt the hotel would provide a great opportunity for local merchants to display
their artwork and will bring people into the downtown area. She supported the design and that it
fits in nicely with the downtown area.

Ms. Michelotti asked about the construction hours.

Mr. Swift said the hours were originally 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in order to avoid the
restaurant traffic. The Planning Commission asked that it be moved up to 4:00 p.m. to avoid the
peak hour traffic at the comer.

Ms. Michelotti complimented Mike Madden and the architect for bringing forth this project.
She liked the idea of the first floor being retail but felt the project brought a different type use that
would complement the downtown area. She would entertain changing the construction hours, in
order to get the project done as quickly as possible. She asked if Council would consider the
realignment of Ray Street, so there is a better turning radius. She felt during the construction would
be a good time to change the corner on Ray Street and Main Street. She asked if the flagpole
feature could be put on Main Street. She supported the design of the project.

Mr. Swift said the building area is 33,000 square feet with 10,000 square feet for parking.

Mayor Tarver had several comments. He agreed hotels should be off Main Street, but has
heard many good comments that the hotel would be a good addition to the downtown area. He
appreciated that the project would provide additional parking. In regards to the construction hours,
he would like to limit the hours during the building phase, but extend the hours during the finishing
phase. He would like the garage screening covered with landscaping. He shared with the applicant
his concerns about the pitch of the roof and the height of the building, but overall it is an excellent
design.

Ms. Ayala asked if the construction hours included Saturday.

Mr. Swift said interior work would be able to be done on Saturday.

Ms. Michelotti would like the construction of the building done as quickly as possible.

Pleasanton City Council 14 03/02/99
Minutes
