5. MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC Diana Bonanno, Economic Development Assistant, presented the report. Mayor Tarver recognized parent volunteers Mary Ann Fandle (Mohr), Karen Ellgas and Gretchen Fuerstenau (DonIon), Christine Petersen (Walnut Grove), Paula Plunk (Alisal) and Sally Wyatt (Vintage Hills) for their outstanding efforts in the Rides to School Program and presented each with a certificate. Michelle Corcoran was also recognized but was unable to attend tonight's meeting. PG&E's presentation PG&E's representatives Mike McGee and Sandy Morris presented a slide presentation regarding service reliability and plans for improvements. Ms. Ayala was alanned that twenty years of capacity had been used in ten years. Mr. McGee said PG&E is in the process of upgrading its facilities and evaluating summertime use to determine the needs for next year. Mayor Tarver said ten years ago PG&E was going to build another power plant and upgrade the system to meet all future demands. Mr. McGee said the power plant was not built, but PG&E took other steps it thought would meet the needs. Ms. Ayala asked if the already approved projects are more than can be served by the existing system. Mr. McGee said yes. Ms. Ayala asked how long to get power to serve Pleasanton to build out. Mr. McGee said the goal is to import more power into the area. It is not a question of power generation, it is the need for transmission lines. Mr. Tarver asked if PG&E followed the same process ten years ago. Mr. McGee said yes and the CPUC ordered solutions that PG&E deemed to be infeasible.
