schools and that the needs of the Community will be met. The School Board has indicated that it
does not want to have 2500 students at the high schools. How that occurs, whether by shifting the
population or building a new high school, is yet to be determined.

Mr. Tarver indicated July 1 is a very important date for making decisions in terms of
short fall.

Mr. Roush explained that the Cooperative Agreement does provide that the notice of a
projected shortfall be communicated by July 1.

Mr. Tarver asked if there was anything in the agreement that talks about altering Exhibit B
in any fashion.

Mr. Roush said a number of provisions talk about ways that Exhibit B could be altered.

Ms. Michelotti said the discussion at the meetings have dealt with the future needs and the
possibility of leaving the current agreement intact but looking at another agreement that would
continue the concept.

Mr. Tarver originally agreed with Ms. Ayala to make the Committee meetings a more
public process, but he did not like the process at all right now. He did not feel comfortable with the
exchange of information. He felt the process was still behind closed doors and not enough
information was being given.

Ms. Ayala indicated that if the next meeting were not more productive, she would request
that future meetings be scheduled at a different time, when more members of either Board could
attend. She is hopeful, after the discussion at the School Board meeting regarding the size of the
high school, that there is some movement and a lot will be accomplished on Thursday morning.
She made it very clear that she wanted the funding for the high school improvements to be in 2000.

Ms. Michelotti said citizens want to use the funds for the high school improvements as a
foundation for building a new high school. There is a conflict here, but she felt there was still a
possibility to make improvements to the present high schools to help address the numbers of
students.

Ms. Dennis asked who declares the shortfall under the Cooperative Agreement?

Mr. Roush said the School District declares the shortfall.

Mr. Tarver requested staff to schedule a joint workshop on this item towards the end of June
or first part of July. He would like one more dialogue directly between the two bodies rather than
through a Committee.

Pleasanton City Council 25 06/01/99
Minutes
