Paul Martin, 7665 Fairoaks Drive, encouraged Council to proceed with the purchase. He
feels purchasing the property is the only way Pleasanton will have control on how the property is
developed.

Mayor Tarver indicated that one person contacted him regarding the cost of the property.

Ms. Michelotti also had one person who had a concern with the purchase of the property
and wanted Council to move ahead carefully.

Ms. Acosta said if a bond measure were placed on the ballot it would require 2/3 majority
vote to be approved.

David Glenn, 10 Telzan Canyon Road, had a concern with the purchase of the San
Francisco property. He has heard that San Francisco does not even want to discuss the sale to
Pleasanton. He believes San Francisco wants to develop the property at the maximum density
for the maximum return. He said San Francisco is already one of the largest recipients in the
nation of tax payer generosity. He felt San Francisco has enough. He was a member of the
General Plan Land Use Committee and many of the other members did not want to see any
development on the San Francisco property. If Pleasanton citizens reject the development in the
future, which he believes they will, then the City Council should pursue the purchase of the San
Francisco property at a fair price.

Mayor Tarver said this issue has been raised before. The issue is how much does San
Francisco want for the property. The City of Pleasanton may not be able to compete with what
San Francisco believes it should get. He would like to pursue all possible discussions and get
input from the community regarding how this property could be purchased so there is a 2/3
majority that sees the value of the Pleasanton's purchasing this property.

Ms. Ayala wanted to leave a legacy for the children. She felt there were other options to
look at.

It was moved by Mayor Tarver, seconded by Ms. Ayala, to pursue the purchase of
the San Francisco property.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Ayala, Dennis, Michelotti, Pico, and Mayor Tarver.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTAIN: None.

Item 6f
Appointment of Downtown Specific Plan Committees (Commercial and Residential)
(SR99:143)

Pleasanton City Council 27 05/18/99
Minutes
