Item 10~
Request of Pitch. Hit & Run to Lease Pleasanton Sports and Recreation Park, August 6-7,
1994 for a Regional YOUth Event (SR94: 105)

Ms. Bengtson presented the staff report.

There was discussion regarding the number of participants and possibility that the number
of parking spaces may not accommodate the number of participants.

Chuck Price, 1243 Berkeley #3, Santa Monica, represented Pitch, Hit & Run. He
explained that his organization objected to paying for fields that would not be used for this
event. He did agree that most/all 700 parking spaces would be used for this event and would
most likely limit the use of the park to the public. He briefly described the events and the
advertising to be used. He asked for Councirs support to reduce the fee to the fields which
would be occupied by the events.

Ms. Bengtson responded that although each of the diamonds were not going to be used,
the parking areas for those fields would be.. Therefore, the City could not book any other events
for that weekend in the park. She agreed with Mr. Price that the benefits of having such an
event in Pleasanton are worthwhile but was concerned with setting a precedent to other agencies
that the City fields are available at a lesser cost.

In response to Mr. Pie, o, Mr. Price stated that PHR would consider donating $1 to the
City for each resident that registers for the event. He would be unable to allow all residents in
at no cost.

Steve Hunter, representing the Pleasanton Conventions and Visitors Bureau, spoke in
support of staff recommendation.

It was moved by Mr. Pico, and seconded by Mayor Tarver, to approve the use of the
Sports Park by Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run for August 5, 6 and 7 for
approximately $11,260; with the option that the City will reduce the fee by 50% if Pitch, Hit
& Run provides a 50 % discount for the registration fees for residents of Pleasanton.

The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers Dennis, Mohr, Pico and Mayor Tarver
NOES: None
ABSENT: Councilmember Scribner
ABSTAIN: None

04/05/94 9
