Section 11. Leaves of Absence <br /> <br />11.1 Leave of Absence Without Pay <br /> <br /> The Appointing Authority may grant a permanent or <br /> probationary employee leave of absence without pay or <br /> seniority for not to exceed three (3) months. No such <br /> leave shall be granted except in writing and upon <br /> written request of the employee setting forth the reason <br /> therefor. Upon expiration of a regularly approved <br /> leave, the employee shall be reinstated in the position <br /> held at the time leave was granted. Failure on the part <br /> of an employee on leave to report promptly at its <br /> expiration or within a reasonable time after notice to <br /> return to duty shall be cause for discipline. The <br /> Police Chief may grant a permanent or probationary <br /> employee leave of absence without pay for not to exceed <br /> one (1) calendar week. Such leaves shall be reported to <br /> the Personnel Officer. <br /> <br />11.2 Jury Leave <br /> <br /> Every employee of the City who is called or required to <br /> serve as a juror shall be entitled to leave from his/her <br /> duties with the City during the period of such service <br /> or while necessarily being present in court as a result <br /> of such call. The employee shall be paid the difference <br /> between his/her full salary and any payment received by <br /> him/her, except travel pay, for such duty. <br /> <br />11.3 Leaves Resulting from Subpoena <br /> <br /> Leave of absence with pay shall be granted to a person <br /> while going to and from court and answering a subpoena <br /> as a witness. The employee shall be paid the difference <br /> between his/her full salary and any payment received by <br /> him/her, except travel pay, for such duty. <br /> <br />11.4 Military Leave <br /> <br /> Military leave shall be granted in accordance with the <br /> provisions of law. All employees entitled to military <br /> leave shall give the Appointing Authority an opportunity <br /> within the limits of military regulations to determine <br /> when such leave shall be taken. <br /> <br />11.5 Maternity Leave <br /> <br /> The Appointing Authority may grant, upon written <br /> request, maternity leave without pay for up to six (6) <br /> months upon determination that such leave will not <br /> adversely effect the needs of the City. <br /> <br />Memorandum of Understanding <br />Page 11 <br /> <br /> <br />
