Mr. Huff stated that there is no architectural effect; the fence is for security only.

Diane Churka, 507 St. Johns Street, stated the applicants chose Mr. Huff as their
architect because of his ability to blend older homes with modern additions. Ms. Churka stated
that this is not a generic building. She stated they bought the property to develop it for their
special use and have customers world-wide. The patio would be on the front side since they
wanted it to be on the sunny side. She originally wanted a gate on the front side but due to
security they changed their view. The double door and lift issue were to accommodate persons
in wheelchairs or who have trouble walking up stairs.

Ms. Michelotti asked how the lift would be incorporated in the building and how
unobtrusive would it be. She also asked if part of the deck area is at ground level.

Ed Churka, 780 Main Street, stated the lift would be impossible to be observed. When
they do the ramping, gate and fence in the front, all you should notice is a push button and sign
indicating what to do. The wall by the upper and lower patio area can't be used as an access
area because if that is an access area, that will have to include a handicap access which will
eliminate four to six feet off the patio. Only the deck area in back is at ground level. He does
not understand why Ray Street needs to be widened but if the $25,000 includes his entire
contribution for sidewalks and the underground wiring, then he felt it was a fair and wouldn't
be opposed to it.

Mayor Tarver asked if it were more expensive to put in underground utilities or to move
the power pole.

Mr. Swift stated that moving the power pole is cheaper because of PG&E's one-time free
move policy that is available when a street is widened.

Ms. Michelotti stated that the building will be conforming to the Downtown Guidelines
color configuration as the building is pastel with darker trim.

Mayor Tarver asked who in the audience agrees that the design of Coffee Roast Express
should be approved. (A significant number of persons raised their hands.)

A1 Bronzini, 3761 Lorena Avenue, stated he supported the Coffee Roast Express going
into downtown. He owned the property at 719 Main Street and felt there wasn't going to be a
great benefit widening Ray Street. There used to be a Chevron station with lots of cars coming
and going from all directions, so there should be no traffic problems. The addition of the
Coffee Roast Express will be a tremendous contribution to the community and to downtown.

Ms. Michelotti commented that in the Chevron station had access from Main Street and
in this design there will not be an access from Main Street.

07/18/95 -10-
