Item 6e
Heritage Tree Case Studies and Potential Revisions to the Tree Preservation Ordinance.
(SR96:353)

Randall Lum presented the staff report.

Mr. Tarver felt the staff report appeared to minimize rather than stiffen the penalty for
removing a heritage tree without permission.

Ms. Michelotti asked if the purpose was to reduce appeals to Council and give more
flexibility to staff?.

Mr. Lum said yes.

Ms. Dennis felt the proposed ordinance allowed for sensitivity and discretion regarding
the type of tree and other concerns. She encouraged development of some program for nurseries
to educate people on costs of maintenance of trees and long term effects of various tree types.

Ms. Michelotti asked if there was a list of recommended trees in the City.

Mayor Tarver asked if there were any speakers on this item.

There were none.

It was moved by Ms. Dennis, seconded by Ms. Ayala, to direct staff to bring back
an ordinance revising the Tree Preservation Ordinance.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Ayala, Dennis, Michelotti, Pico, and Mayor Tarver
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

Item 6f
Appeal by Mr. Gary Schwaegerle of the deciSion by the Public Works Director denvin,,
permission for removal of a Heritage tree at 627 Rose Avenue.
