He then administered the oath of office to the newly elected Councilmembers Kay Ayala and Thomas P. Pico, Jr. Finally, he administered the oath of office to the newly elected Mayor, Ben Tarver. Ms. Ayala thanked all those who helped on her campaign. She indicated she takes this responsibility very seriously and intends to work as a team with the Council and Mayor Tarver to make Pleasanton an even more special place than it is today. She encouraged as many people as possible to be involved and to join committees. Mr. Pico indicated he was honored and humbled to have the opportunity to serve as a City Councilmember for a second term. He also thanked the many who worked on his campaign and especially thanked those who voted for him. Above all, he thanked his wife, Karen, for her support and encouragement. He expressed special thoughts for his mother, who is ill and could not be at the meeting. Mr. Tarver indicated a lot goes into a campaign and he was fortunate to have many people helping him. He is honored to serve another two years to continue the direction for the City of Pleasanton and to reach out to the business community, the School District, other agencies, and the rest of the community involved in making Pleasanton a better place in which to live, work and raise a family. He also urged involvement. He thanked his wife for her support and indicated it is difficult to express how much the family has to give in order to have another member be an elected official. He gave special thanks to his daughter, who was his campaign chairman. Photographs of the new Council were taken. 5. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 6:18 p.m. to a reception being held at the Pleasanton Library.
