The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers -Dennis, Michelotti, Mohr, Pico, and Mayor Tarvet
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

Town S~_uare Park

Ms. Dennis asked what does the Planning Commission think the difference is between
"consider' and 'explore'. Is the downtown considered a study area in this concept or is that
totally separate?

Mr. Rasmussen indicated those are two separate projects. They could be linked; however
the Downtown Specific Plan relates to residential. The town square would be an area located
off Main Street in the commercial area. The Steering Committee, the Planning Commission and
the Park and Recreation Commission were very committed to this idea.

Mr. Tarver suggested using 'encourage" instead of consider or explore, especially in
relation to a committee that will study how to accomplish this goal. He liked the idea of other
public open space areas to serve as a location for outdoor events.

It was moved by Ms. Michelotti, seconded by Ms. Dennis, to modify the Steering
Commlttee's recommendation as to Program 3.2 on page II-16, so that it reads:
"Encourage the alternatives for developing a Downtown activity center such as a 'town
square park' or other public open space area to serve as a location for outdoor community
events."
The r011 c~all vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Dennis, Michelotti, Mohr, Pico, and Mayor Tarvet
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None

HiStOriC Train

It was moved by Mr. Tarver, seconded by Mr. Pico, to approve the Steering
Committee recommendation.

Ms. Michelotti wanted it to be dear that when you encourage implementation in the
downtown rather than to the downtown, as it was put on the ballot, that we be clear that no
public funds will be used for the street crossings, etc. and that it is not funded by the City of
Pleasanton. She did not want someone to say it is in the General Plan to bring this train into
town when the project just goes to the corner of Bernal Avenue.

07/02/96 -12-
