natural that is a good identification for the BART station to help riders find the station. He
agreed Dublin should also be in the name of one of the two stations.

Earline DeMarcus, former BART Director, indicated she had called the station the
Hacienda BART station because there was a Park and Ride Lot provided by Hacienda Business
Park to develop the ridership for this line. She felt it was easy for people to identify because
of the Hacienda Drive off-ramp. She wanted to keep in mind that the west station will be named
and she thought of it as the Dublin/Pleasanton station and the next station would be Hacienda.
She believed the first Livemore station would be Kittyhawk and the end of the line would be
Livemore. She realized Dublin wants to have its name on the station, but when the line was
being built, there was no Dublin; it was County property, Camp Parks and the prison. There
was not a lot of participation from Dublin at that time. She realized things have changed, but
she still supported calling this station Hacienda.

Gary Schwagerle, 189 West Angela, agreed Hacienda was an appropriate name.

Mr. Pico indicated this station is the end of the line and needs a destination in the name.
If someone is in San Francisco and wants to go to Hayward, they get the Fremont line. We all
know where Hacienda is, but a tourist or foreign visitor may not know. He felt the name of a
city or cities should be at the end of the line station. We should be proud of our city name and
have it flash on the BART signs and we should include our friends in Dublin. He would be
happy to have the west station named Dublin and this station named Pleasanton if that would be
an incentive to get the statio built sooner. He appreciated the significance of Hacienda, but did
not feel it was appropriate for an end of the line station.

Ms. Michelotti believed the station would commonly be referred to as the Hacienda
station. She thought some of Mr. Pieo's comments were relevant regarding an end-of-the-line
station. She did not know how difficult it would be to change a station name in the future; that
is, if the west station were named Pleasanton/Dublin, then the east station should be Hacienda.
She agreed Dublin should be included somewhere. At first she thought *Pleasanton/Hacienda*
would be nice, but did not think others would agree. "Dublin/Pleasanton/Hacienda" would
probably be too long. She felt the station would be referred to as Hacienda and the second
station would be Pleasanton/Dublin. She also felt Hacienda was neutral since it did not include
either city.

Mr. Tarver felt if them were two stations, the current station would have to be named
East Dublin. However, Hacienda is a big piece of Pleasanton and is very visible. He does not
want the station called "Dublin/Hacienda*. If BART agrees to long names, he suggested
~Dublin/Pleasanton/Hacienda*. If people really want to be directional, the station would have
to be named East Dublin/Pleasanton/Hacienda, but he seriously doubte~l the BART directors
would go along with that. Because Hacienda is associated with P1es_~nton, Mr. Tarver did not
think Dublin would accept that name.

02/20/96 -13-
