Consideration of reauest from Evangelical Free Church for the City to consider
purchasln~ the Church nro_uerty located at 6900 Valley Trails Drive for the _nut-nose of
develoning a Dark. (SR96:33)

This item was not discussed.

Item 6b
Request for variance of fire sprinkler reo_uirements for the two-level _oarking structure
adjacent to Sears at Stoneridge Mall.

This item was removed from the agenda.

Item 6c
Report on Proposal to Acquire Neighborhood Parkland from Prudential Insurance in the
Hacienda Business Park. (3R 96:36)

Dolores Bengtson presented the staff report.

Ms. Dennis asked if Ms. Bengtson could use more land than the recommended site for
the park; and, if so, what would she do with

Ms. Bengtson indicated the basic needs of a neighborhood park can be met on five acres.
If there were more acreage, amenities could be added, but they would duplicate what is already
in the park. For instance, instead of two or three picnic tables, there would be four or five.
Neighborhood parks are for casual use, not assigned group sports fields. It is preferred that the
neighborhood parks not be used as practice fields.

Mr. Pico referred to the park options and the matrix showing an eight acre developed
neighborhood park and asked for verification that there was enough money.

Ms. Bengtson thought that was correct.

Ms. Dennis then asked for a comparison of the two sites.

Ms. Bengtson believed Lot 25A was a better site because it was more centrally located;
the location adjacent to Tassajara Creek allows for tying into the trails niong the creek and the
railroad corridor; the access and proposed parking on the panhandle keep the parking and
restroom at a discrete separation from the use area; and access from Stoneridge DriveFFassajara
Creek and West Las Positas Drive is an advantage. She also liked the shape better; the
rectangular use area is separated from the vehicles. She felt the pathway and circulation system
feed into the site and it is a good location for a park. Ms. Bengtson responded to a question

02106196 5
