Mr. Montgomery said that is correct.

Mr. Pico asked if the platform would accommodate a five car train and if this was the
maximum length. He also asked if any noise studies had been done on the stopping and starting
up of the trains.'?

Mr. Montgomery said the platform would accommodate a five car train. In regards to
the noise level, the commuter trains will not be as noisy as the freight trains. The couplings are
not as loose and the trains are shorter. The trains are required by federal law to blow their
whistles. Four noisy freight trains are being replaced by four quieter commuter trains.

Mr. Pico asked if there were any platforms in the San Jaoquin County or Alameda
County located adjacent to a residential area.

Mr. Montgomery said the Stockton platform is partly located in a
residentiai/commerciai/industrial area. The one in Tracy is located near the airport in a vacant
industrial area. The one in Manteca is located across the street from a residential area and the
one in Livermore is located on industrial land.

Vice Mayor Pico asked for public testimony.

Robert Cordtz, 262 West Angela Street, said he would like to see sound studies done on
the present track. He asked what the actual length would be for the commuter train. He
wondered if there would be a charge for parking? He also requested the Mayor be present
before any vote is taken.

Mr. Pico said there will be future public hearings held on this issue and directed staff to
notify the residents.

Judy Fox, 3645 Virgin Island Court, being an 1-680 commuter, felt this train is much
needed. She was disappointed that the train station would not be in until possibly June. She
would like to see more public transit made available in Pleasanton.

June Blanchetie, 393 W. Angela, asked why there was not an EIR being required for this
project. She played a tape of one of approximately sixteen trains that run by her house at
different times of the day. She said Oakland would not even allow trains to run through the
ghetto, so why is Pleasanton allowing trains to run through the City. She understood four
freight trains would be eliminated to make room for the new commuter trains.

Holly Stamatis, 4741 Harrison Street, #10, said she lives approximately 150 feet from
the proposed train station. She monitored the trains and the trains go through approximately
every 35 to 40 minutes at approximately 45-50 miles per hour. She had a petition signed by 42
residents. She said only six of these people received a notice. She has lived on Harrison Street

Pleasanton City Council 7 07/01/97
Minutes
