impact the sensitive streets. But it was chosen also because Pleasanton did not have to
contribute towards the service. She was willing to look at other sites, but at the moment there
is no money available to purchase another site. If the City has desires for another site, then it
would have to determine what funding was available.

Ms. Ayala asked if the station would be portable.

Ms. Mortensen said an asphalt platform could be put in, making the station portable but
it would be more expensive to do so. The ultimate decision will come from the community.

Ms. Michelotti understood that after three years the train would need to prove it is a
viable alternate solution in order to attract future funding to go ahead with a new station. She
felt another site would need to be found before the three year period was up in order to be ready
to move from the temporary station. She felt one of the key links in making this project
successful would be the "Wheels" buses.

Ms. Mortensen said the scheduling of the "Wheels" buses is being looked at.

Ms. Michelotti commented the Tri-Valley Business Council is worldng very diligently
on traffic issues. She felt one of the key links in the trains being successful would be to have
the major businesses offer commuter vans.

Mr. Pico indicated he was concerned that LAFTA had not been involved in the
discussions. He felt there was an unwillingness to include LAFTA. He said currently there is
no service provided to BART before 6:00 a.m. and LAFTA was trying to find funding to do
this. He felt the issue had not been addressed as to how transportation will be provided for the
people getting off the trains. He encouraged the Altamont Rail Commission to work closely
with LAFTA on these issues. He said it would be nice to have the platform at the transit center,
to make it truly intermobile.

Mr. Mortensen said the platform would be at the transit site. The tracks were being
shifted to go to the LAFTA side of the facility.

Ms. Ayala agreed that traffic is an immense problem in the Valley and believed that
LAFTA was capable of putting plans together to take care of the intermobile needs for the City.

Mr. Lum said staff noticed property owners 1000 feet around the proposed area.

Ms. Acosta said noticing residents is a continuing process. It is difficult to notice
apartment dwellers. For apartments, notices are usually sent to the occupant as well as to the
owner. There also have been problems with delivery. A meeting is being scheduled with the
Postmaster to see what can be done. The City is always striving to do better on notices.

Pleasanton City Council 10 07/01/97
Minutes
