Ms. Acosta mentioned that a meeting with Council regarding BART had occurred within
the last six months.

Carl Pretzel, 3633 Glacier Ct, urged Council to approve this application. Mr. Pretzel
addressed the traffic issues and felt that the trips generated by new hotels would not impact the
traffic because the trips would be made at off peak hours. He said that he called one of his
business associates and discovered that apparently there is great difficulty finding lodging in
Pleasanton for business trips. He feels that Pleasanton needs more hotels and that if the hotels
are not built here, they will be built somewhere else and Pleasanton will lose the revenues.

Angelina Summers, 4750 Sutter Gate Ave, stated that she is in agreement with staff's
recommendation. She stated at the Planning Commission meeting that she would like the present
zoning to remain unchanged and that each parcel should be reviewed on a case by case basis.
She does not feel that Prudential should be given a blanket modification to the subject properties.
If hotels/motels wished to do business in Pleasanton, they will come forward on their own and
Pleasanton should wait and see.

It was moved by Ms. Michelotti, seconded by Ms. Dennis, to introduce Ordinance
No. 1707, to be read by title only and waiving further reading thereof, approving the
application of Prudential Insurance, for a major modification of the Hacienda 'Business
Park PUD development plan to allow hotels/motels as a conditional use on Lots 52, 53A,
56C, and 57A, B, and C.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Ayala, Dennis, Michelotti, and Vice Mayor Pico
NOES: None
ABSENT: Mayor Tarver
ABSTAIN: None

Ms. Dennis asked how specific submitted applications have to be? Can applications be
submitted with the intention of putting in hotels/motels but if not appropriate, be changed?

Mr. Swift commented that the conditional use permit process is very broad.

Item 6b
PUD-90-08-1M, Del Valle Court Homeowners Association
Application for a major modification to an approved development plan to construct a gate
across the entry to Del Valle Court (SR97:53)

Brian Swift presented the staff report.

Pleasaton City Council 2/18/97
Minutes 6
