Ms. Acosta requested any comments possible on Option 5.

Ms. Ayala said she would talk to staff.

Ms. Dennis had questions on the traffic exhibit and would like clarifications.

Ms. Michelotti felt strongly that we need to know what is cut-through traffic.

Ms. Dennis indicated part F of Option 5 needs more speci~city.

Mr. Roush indicated the problem is trying to define what the traffic base is for comparing
what traffic a new project will generate.

There being no further discussion, this item was continued to January 21, 1997.

Item 6e
Ree_uest for Stop Si_k, ns on Mohr Avenue at NUrSery_ Drive, (SR97:11)

Randall Lum presented the staff report.

It was moved by Mr. Tarver, seconded by Ms. Dennis, to adopt Resolution No. 97-
02, approving a temporary stop sign pending development of a traffic calming program.

Ms. Dennis asked if there are methods to make the neighborhood aware of speeding
problems such as the device that tells a driver how fast the vehicle is going?

Carole Varela, 3858 Mohr Avenue, spoke in support of the stop sign and described the
area where she obtained 57 signatures on the petition requesting the sign. She then referred to
the traffic counter placement and timing. She agreed there is less traffic in this area of Mohr
Avenue, but she still believed the stop sign was necessary. She disputed the claim that there
were no traffic accidents and reported two accidents; one knocked over a brick pillar in a yard
and another hit a tree in somcone's yard.

Ms. Ayala asked if Ms. Varela was talking to her neighbors about the speeding problem,
because it seems that most of the speeders are residents of the area.

Ms. Varela explained she has not had a chance, but felt it was a good suggestion.

Ms. Michelotti asked if there had been any discussion of the proposed traffic calming
devices.

Ms. Varela indicated a couple of people did not like the stop signs, but were also
concerned about the safety of their children. She disagreed with the staff report where it states

14 1/07/97
