MINUTES <br /> OF <br /> THE <br /> MEETING <br /> OF <br /> THE CITY COUNCIL <br /> <br /> May 5, 1998 <br /> <br />6:00 p.m. CLOSED SESSION <br /> <br /> Conferred with legal counsel concerning pending litigation against the County of Alameda <br />concerning its certification of an EIR and its approval of a use permit for the expansion of the <br />Altamont Landfill. <br /> <br />6:30 p.m. Reception for newly appointed and former Commissioners. <br /> <br />1. CALL TO ORDER <br /> Mayor Ben Tarver called the Regular Meeting of the City Council to order at 7:00 p.m. <br /> <br /> Mayor Tarver led the assembly in the pledge of allegiance. He said that at tonight's <br />meeting, there would be the swearing in of new commissioners. He appreciated the work of the <br />former commissioners. He commented that he had just returned from a trip to Tulancingo, <br />Pleasanton's Sister City in Mexico. He brought back a series of books on Tulancingo, both in <br />Spanish and English, and the books will be in the library shortly. He encouraged everyone to <br />read them. <br /> <br />2. ROLL CALL <br /> <br /> City Clerk Peggy L. Ezidro called the roll, which is recorded as follows: <br />Councilmembers present were Kay Ayala, Becky Dennis, Sharrell Michelotti, and Mayor Ben <br />Tarver. Staff members present were: Deborah Acosta, City Manager; Michael H. Roush, City <br />Attorney; Brian W. Swift, Director of Planning and Community Development; Randall A.
