There was no further public testimony.

Mr. Pico agreed there needed to be a provision for the steam train. He was concerned
about whether the equestrian uses could be blended in with the other proposed uses. He would
like to see more youth involvement, particularly in respect to the potential uses at the fire
station. He felt exploring the downtown square issue was important. He believed not all
potential sites had been looked at and perhaps a smaller square would be better.

Ms. Michelotti said it was a pleasure to drive around the area and visualize the
improvements. She felt a bridge over the creek area by Wayside Park would be a great asset.
The corridor fight now is being used for extra parking which she approved. She thought it
would be nice to incorporate cinder blocks with green areas to enhance the corridor. Another
enhancement would be to create a water area along the west side of the creek. All the
suggestions made regarding the parks were great. She agreed with having public restrooms,
maybe on the Delucchi Park side. She said one of the objectives of the downtown area was to
open up from one parking area to another. She supported the youth involvement. Her main
objective was to enhance the bridge over the Arroyo. She felt the Arroyo could become a great
asset for the city.

Ms. Ayala understood this was just a conceptual plan and all the information would be
looked at element by element. She also would like to incorporate a youth commissioner on the
Task Force. She said all the issues brought up have been discussed by the Task Force and the
idea of a steam train has not been eliminated.

Ms. Michelotti commented that if the steam train were to only come to Bernal Avenue,
there could be other ways to travel to the downtown area.

Ms. Ayala said any input from the public or commissions was welcomed.

Ms. Dennis asked if the town square could be located where the gas station was? She
supported the youth commission involvement. She wondered if there would be liability issues
with the equestrian uses of the trails.

It was moved by Ms. Michelotti, and seconded by Ms. Ayala, to adopt Resolution
No. 98-14, approving the project elements identified in the plan with the direction to
consider the input heard here this evening.
The roll call vote was as follows:
AYES: Councilmembers - Ayala, Michelotti, Pico and Vice Mayor Dennis.
NOES: None
ABSENT: Mayor Tarvet
ABSTAIN: None

Pleasanton City Council 3/03/98
Minutes 12
