Mr. Cooper felt each commission could appoint a representative but that representative
should be non-voting.

Judy Symcox, 1450 Groth Circle, asked if the extension of Stoneridge Drive would be
considered by this committee.

Ms. Ayala said this committee would not be reviewing Stoneridge Drive.

Ms. Michelotti said Stoneridge Drive will be reviewed in a normal process under the
current General Plan.

Mayor Tarver said Stoneridge Drive will go through and that concept will not be changed
by this committee.

Ms. Symcox had a concern that all the traffic will end up on Valley Avenue. She felt
Stoneridge Drive should be extended first. Regarding the makeup of the committee, she did not
see a need for members from the commissions or four representatives from the City at-large.
She would rather see the committee include representatives from the Valley Avenue area.

Mr. Pico said the issue of whether Stoneridge Drive would be extended or not would
probably be determined by a future Council. The decision to put it in might change after the
November election.

Peter Cohen, 1602 Martin Avenue, did not want to see an outcome that was less desirable
than what the ad-hoc committee had come up with. The reason for the referendum drive was
that a significant number of people felt that even the impact from the ad-hoc'committee
suggestions was too much. He agreed that the committee should be made up of people who
would be the most impacted. He did not see a need for voting members from the commissions
but he would like the committee to have a liaison from the Parks and Recreation Commission.

Ms. Ayala asked if he felt Affordable Housing should have some input.

Mr. Cohen said affordable housing is opposed by most people in that area and felt
someone from this commission would not be welcomed.

Debra Barker, 5018 Blackbird Way, proposed using the same composition that was used
for the Quality of Life Committee. She felt the Councilmembers should each appoint one
person; the Mayor would appoint two people; have four people appointed and selected by the
proponents of the referendum (Carole Varela and Start Erickson); someone from the. School
Board; and someone from the Sports Council. She said the General Plan Committee did a great
job but it was a long process. She wanted people on the committee that are committed to doing
the study quickly.

Pleasanton City Council 8 08/04/98
Minutes
