ADVANTAGE PLEASANTON

AN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT MARKETING PROGRAM
FOR THE CITY OF PLEASANTON

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce should establish an economic
development function within the Chamber in order to promote and
market the growing business community within Pleasanton.
Specifically, the economic development manager would prepare
materials to market Pleasanton. Additionally, he/she would
identify, contact and follow up with specific user groups to
make them aware of office and commercial developments within our
City for potential relocation.

During the past several years, Pleasanton has established itself
as one of the premier suburban office relocation markets in
Northern California. It is important for the Chamber of
Commerce to support this commercial growth potential with a
marketing campaign. Such a program will assist the current
members of the Chamber by promoting a climate in which
businesses can operate successfully. The Pleasanton market has
not yet reached its potential and thus we need to remain
competitive with other communities in attracting corporations on
the move. An economic development marketing program will
provide a vehicle to remain competitive by providing current and
comprehensive information thru an unbiased source to users,
broker, developers, and other interested parties. Developing
attractive and easy to understand information about our
community will help establish Pleasanton as a city that stands
behind and believes in its efforts to promote commercial growth.

In Pleasanton today, there exists a 17.4% vacancy rate in the
office market. The existing base of office space totals
approximately 6 million square feet. Pleasanton has approved
business parks and corresponding development for some 20±
million square feet to be built on the 1500 ± acres of
commercial and business park land. Our marketing efforts are
only 6-7 years old. It is imperative that we strive to reach
our potential by implementing a marketing plan for our
community by the businesses which will benefit from this growth.

Our efforts will assist the Chamber by expanding membership and
benefit the existing members by providing more business.
Pleasanton will make a statement to our competitors that we are
dedicated to see our commercial business community prosper.
Additionally, it is important that the City staff be relieved
from the burden of trying to assist interested users.
