5.6 Salary Step After Promotion or Demotion When an employee is promoted from a position in one class to a position in a higher class, he/she shall receive the minimum rate for the higher class; provided however, that such step is at least five percent (5%) above his/her current wage rate. When an employee is demoted, whether such demotion is voluntary or otherwise, that employee's compensation shall be adjusted to the salary prescribed for the class to which he/she is demoted. The specific rate of pay within the range shall be determined by the City Manager, whose decision shall be final; provided, however, that the employee's rate of pay shall not be set at a lower rate of pay than he/she would have received had he/she remained in the lower class. Section 6. Hours of Work, Shift & Station Assiqnments 6.1 Work Schedule The work schedule shall consist of nine (9) twenty-four (24) hour on-duty periods within a twenty-seven (27) day cycle to be worked in accordance with the following chart: X = 24 hour on-duty period O = 24 hour off-duty period XOXOXOOOOXOXOXOOOOXOXOXOOOO 6.2 Exchanges of On-Duty Time Exchanges of on-duty time shall be permitted between employees of the same rank. Exchanges of on-duty time shall not be granted in cases that result in financial liability to the City. Requests for exchanges of on-duty time shall be submitted on the proper form to employee's immediate supervisor and shall include both signatures of the people involved and their immediate supervisor. There shall be no limit to the number of exchanges per month. The employees involved in the exchange shall make arrangements for the pay back of time. In the event the Fire Chief finds it necessary, he will meet and discuss with the Union the application of exchanges of on-duty time. - 10 -
