City of Pleasanton Proposal PR88056
Geotechnical Investigation For October 5, 1988
Road Failure Evaluation Page 3
Pleasanton, California

Engineering and Report

Based on the results of our field work and laboratory testing,
and review of existing aerial photographs and geotechnical data
pertaining to the area, we would perform engineering analyses to
evaluate the geotechnical factors causing the subject ground
failure. The results of these analyses would be the basis for
our conclusions and recommendations. These would be summarized
in a final report containing the following:

1. Site Plan showing exploratory borings/inclinometer hole
locations;

2. Detailed Logs of Borings;

3. Summary of Laboratory Test Data;

4. Discussion of overall surface and subsurface soil and
water conditions;

5. Presentation of inclinometer readings and resulting
lateral movements;

6. Discussion of causes of the roadway and canal
embankment distress;

7. Potential failure plane(s), slide(s) geometry, and
slope stability data;

8. Recommended alternative schemes for the roadway
restoration and containment;

9. Recommended parameters for the design of a selected
retaining structure including active and passive soil
pressures, coefficient of friction between soil and
foundations, and lateral pressures due to surcharge
loads; and

10. Recommendation for site preparation and earthwork
including excavation, grading, drainage and backfill
requirements.

BSK
& Associates
