Planning for the Ridge Trail is Now Underway... <br /> Throughout the Bay Area. a coalition of over 50 public land management agencies, non-profit organizations, and <br /> hundreds of volunteers are working on planning and implementing the Ridge Trail. This coalition, the BAY AREA <br /> RIDGE TRAIL COUNCIL, guides the planning, trail building, and management of the Ridge Trail. <br /> <br /> Our goals for the Ri*dge Trail are: <br /> · The Ridge Trail will be planned as a recreation corridor. Within this corridor, alternative trails and parallel paths <br /> will create a wide diversity of recreation experiences for all trail users. <br /> · Each section of the Ridge Trail will be operated under the jurisdiction of a specific land managing agency or <br /> organization holding membership in the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council. <br />· The Ridge Trail will follow existing trails whenever possible. It will connect them by using public lands and lands <br /> on which a public access easement has been acquired, either through gift, dedication, or purchase. <br /> · The RidgeTrail Corridor will be compatible with local plans and follow a route sensitive to environmental concerns. <br /> <br />Completion Target: 19921 <br />The proposed Ridge Trail Corridor, announced to the public in September, 1988, will guide development of the Ridge <br />Trail. During the next four years, the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council will enlist agency and citizen support to complete <br />the Trail. Long range goals for the Ridge Trail will be accomplished over a 20 year span and will include refining trail <br />alignments to provide the most spectacular scenery and richest variety of wilderness and recreational experiences <br />possible. <br /> <br />YOU CAN HELP CREATE THE RIDGE TRAIL... <br />Establishing the Bay Area Ridge Trail is a region-wide community project.
