BAY AREA RIDGE TRAIL <br /> FACT SHEET <br /> <br /> IMAGINE EXPLORING THE BAY AREA ALONG A TRAIL THAT OFFERS 400 MILES OF RIDGELINE <br /> VISTAS! <br /> The San Francisco Bay Area Ridge Trail will offer recreation opportunities for hikers, bicyclists, equestrians and all <br /> who enjoy a grand view! <br /> <br /> The Bay Area Ridge Trail Corridor wills <br /> Follow the ridges of the hills and mountains that circle the Bay. It will eventually stretch 300-400 miles through <br /> the nine Bay Area counties. <br /> <br /> Be located within a one hour drive of the region's most heavily populated areas. <br /> <br /> Offer parallel and alternative routes and special design features for bicyclists, equestrians, wheelchair users and <br /> backcountry hikers. <br /> <br /> Lead to spots of special environmental or cultural interest including panoramic views, meadows and <br /> woodlands, unusual geological features, historic sites and camping areas. <br /> <br />~ Link nearby communities to a network of spur and loop trails that will connect many of the Bay Area's parks and <br /> open space resources. <br /> <br /> Include spur trails that will !ink to the Bay Trail which is being planned to circle the shoreline of the San <br /> Francisco Bay. <br /> <br />Much of the Ridge Trail Already Exists... <br />The Ridge Trail will traverse public lands and existing <br />easements to the maximum extent possible. Sections of <br />the Ridge Trail already exist along the ridges in Golden <br />Gate National Recreation Area, Maria Open Space <br />District. Greater Vallejo Recreation and Park District, <br />East Bay Regional Park District.
