(Ord. 1819 § 1, 2001) <br />2.39.020 Duties: <br />A. The commission shall be responsi- <br />ble for advising the city council on mat- <br />ters related to public art. <br />B. The duties of the commission shall <br />include the following: <br />1. Act in an advisory capacity to the <br />city council for recommendations regard- <br />ing the administration of the public art <br />program including the establishing of <br />program policies and guidelines, recom- <br />mending annual public art budgets and <br />selecting art juries. It shall also be re- <br />sponsible to the city council for recom- <br />mendations regarding the administration <br />of the city civic arts program including <br />establishing program policies, goals and <br />fees. <br />1. Prior ordinance history: Ord. 1676, 1996; Ord. 1786, 1999. <br />2. Designate sites, determine project <br />scope and budget, oversee the artist selec- <br />tion process, commission artworks, review <br />design, execution and placement of <br />artworks, and oversee the process for re- <br />moval of artworks from the public art <br />collection. <br />3. Submit to the city council for its <br />approval, an annual public art projects <br />plan with a prioritized list of proposed <br />public art projects, recommended budgets <br />and funding sources and design approach- <br />es. The annual public art projects plan <br />shall be submitted in consultation with <br />city agencies anticipating city capital <br />projects and/or private organizations or <br />individuals wishing to develop a public <br />art project. <br />4. Establish, coordinate and include in <br />the annual public art projects plan rec- <br />ommendations for the ongoing mainte- <br />nance of the city public art collection, and <br />provisions for an ongoing educational <br />program which will enhance the <br />community's awareness and appreciation <br />of the city public art collection. <br />5. Determine the method or methods of <br />selection and commissioning of artists <br />with respect to the design, execution and <br />placement of works of art for which ap- <br />propriations have been made, and, pursu- <br />ant to such method or methods, make <br />recommendations to the city council for <br />the selection and commission of artists. <br />The civic arts commission, if it deems it <br />appropriate, may invite professionals in <br />the visual arts and design fields to serve <br />in the selection process in order to ensure <br />works of the highest quality. The civic <br />arts commission also shall ensure appro- <br />priate community participation in the <br />36-5 (Pleasanton April 2001) <br />
