6.24.040 <br />6.24.040 Permit Exemptions: <br />The permit requirements of this <br />Chapter shall not apply to the following <br />persons while engaged in the perfor- <br />mance of their duties: <br />A. Physicians, surgeons, chiroprac- <br />tors, osteopaths, nurses, physical thera- <br />pists, or acupuncturists who are duly <br />licensed to practice their respective <br />professions in the State. <br />B. Barbers, beauticians, cosmetolo- <br />gists, and estheticians who are duly <br />licensed under the laws of the State <br />while engaging in practices within the <br />scope of their licenses. <br />C. Hospitals, nursing homes, sanitari- <br />ums, or any other health facility duly <br />licensed by the State. <br />D. Accredited high schools, junior <br />colleges, colleges, or universities whose <br />coaches and trainers are .acting within <br />the scope of their employment. <br />E. Trainers of amateur, semiprofes- <br />sional or professional athletes or athlet- <br />ic teams while engaging in their train- <br />ing responsibilities for and with ath- <br />letes; and trainers working in conjunc- <br />tion with a specific athletic event such <br />as road races, track meets, triathlons, <br />biathlons, or similar single occurrence <br />athletic or recreational events. (Ord. <br />1727 § 2, 1997) <br />6.24.050 Educational, Certification, <br />And Association Require- <br />ments: <br />A. Each permittee shall either: <br />1. Possess an original diploma, origi- <br />nal certificate of graduation, or other <br />written proof, including certified sealed <br />transcripts, acceptable to the Police <br />Chief, from a recognized school of <br />massage, college, junior college, or <br />university which shows satisfactory <br />completion of at least five hundred <br />(500) hours of a nonrepetitive curricu- <br />lum which shall include the following: <br />a. Three hundred (300) hours of for- <br />mal education and training in massage <br />therapy and/or bodywork, ethics, anato- <br />my, and physiology; and <br />b. Two hundred (200) hours of ad- <br />junct/related education and/or profes- <br />sional experience; or <br />2. Have certification pursuant to the <br />National Certification Board for Thera- <br />peutic Massage and Bodywork. The <br />permittee shall present original docu- <br />ments showing such certification at the <br />time of application. <br />B. Each permittee shall be a member, <br />in good standing, of a State or national <br />professional association devoted to the <br />massage specialty and therapeutic en- <br />hancement approach. The organization <br />shall meet the following requirements: <br />1. The organization or association <br />promotes participation in continuing <br />education programs as a condition of <br />continuing membership; <br />2. The organization or association <br />has an established code of ethics and <br />has enforcement procedures for the <br />suspension and revocation of member- <br />ship of persons violating the code of <br />ethics; and <br />3. The organization or association is <br />open to members of the general public, <br />meeting the requirements for member- <br />ship on a regional, Statewide, or nation- <br />al basis, and is devoted to serving the <br />interests of its members, the public, and <br />the profession. <br />(Pleasanton 5-98) 156 <br />
