20.08.050 <br />20.08.050 Section 1503 Amended In <br />Its Entirety - Roof- <br />Covering Requirements: <br />Section 1503 of the California Build- <br />ing Standards Code 2001 Edition (24 <br />CCR), and including by reference the <br />Uniform Building Code, 1997 Edition, <br />is amended in its entirety to read as <br />follows: <br />The roof covering on any structure <br />regulated by this Code shall be as <br />specified in Table 15-A and as clas- <br />sified in Section 1504. The roof- <br />covering assembly includes the roof <br />deck, underlayment, interlayment, <br />insulation and covering which is <br />assigned aroof-covering classifica- <br />tion. <br />Roofing shall be secured or fastened <br />to the supporting roof construction <br />and shall provide weather protection <br />for the building at the roof. <br />Notwithstanding other sections of <br />this Code the following roof cover- <br />ing requirements shall apply in the <br />City. <br />Fire retardancy, when required. All <br />roof coverings on all structures shall <br />have a minimum of a Class A roof- <br />ing assembly. <br />Exceptions: Buildings of III, IV and <br />V construction which are not located <br />in Hazard Areas, where it may be <br />one of the following: <br />1. Class C rated roof covering may <br />be installed on buildings of Group <br />R, Division 3 occupancy. <br />2. Class C rated roof coverings <br />may be installed on buildings of <br />Group U division 1 occupancies of <br />less than 1,000 square feet in pro- <br />jected roof area. <br />3. Class C rated roof coverings <br />may be installed on buildings of <br />Group R Division I (apartment, <br />condominium or congregate resi- <br />dences only) Occupancies which <br />are not more than two stories in <br />height and have not more than <br />3,000 square feet of projected roof <br />area, and where there is a mini- <br />mum of 10 feet from the extremity <br />of the roof to the property line on <br />all sides except street fronts. <br />Regardless of the classification rat- <br />ing, wood product roof covering <br />materials shall not be permitted or <br />installed in the City of Pleasanton. <br />Exception. Existing Group R Divi- <br />sion 3, and Group U Division 1, <br />structures with wood product roofs <br />may be reroofed with wood prod- <br />uct coverings under the following <br />conditions: <br />1. When the reroofing material <br />applied is pressure fire treated. <br />Fire treated material must be in <br />accordance with approved na- <br />tional standards; and <br />2. The reroofing is installed as a <br />Class B assembly as defined by <br />Uniform Building Standard 15-2. <br />Hazard Areas shall be defined as <br />those areas beyond five (5) min- <br />704-7 (Pleasanton April 2003) <br />
