20.08.050 20.08.050 Section 1503 Amended In Its Entirety - Roof- Covering Requirements: Section 1503 of the California Build- ing Standards Code 2001 Edition (24 CCR), and including by reference the Uniform Building Code, 1997 Edition, is amended in its entirety to read as follows: The roof covering on any structure regulated by this Code shall be as specified in Table 15-A and as clas- sified in Section 1504. The roof- covering assembly includes the roof deck, underlayment, interlayment, insulation and covering which is assigned aroof-covering classifica- tion. Roofing shall be secured or fastened to the supporting roof construction and shall provide weather protection for the building at the roof. Notwithstanding other sections of this Code the following roof cover- ing requirements shall apply in the City. Fire retardancy, when required. All roof coverings on all structures shall have a minimum of a Class A roof- ing assembly. Exceptions: Buildings of III, IV and V construction which are not located in Hazard Areas, where it may be one of the following: 1. Class C rated roof covering may be installed on buildings of Group R, Division 3 occupancy. 2. Class C rated roof coverings may be installed on buildings of Group U division 1 occupancies of less than 1,000 square feet in pro- jected roof area. 3. Class C rated roof coverings may be installed on buildings of Group R Division I (apartment, condominium or congregate resi- dences only) Occupancies which are not more than two stories in height and have not more than 3,000 square feet of projected roof area, and where there is a mini- mum of 10 feet from the extremity of the roof to the property line on all sides except street fronts. Regardless of the classification rat- ing, wood product roof covering materials shall not be permitted or installed in the City of Pleasanton. Exception. Existing Group R Divi- sion 3, and Group U Division 1, structures with wood product roofs may be reroofed with wood prod- uct coverings under the following conditions: 1. When the reroofing material applied is pressure fire treated. Fire treated material must be in accordance with approved na- tional standards; and 2. The reroofing is installed as a Class B assembly as defined by Uniform Building Standard 15-2. Hazard Areas shall be defined as those areas beyond five (5) min- 704-7 (Pleasanton April 2003)
