Commissioner Pearce noted that she liked the new emphasis on walkability on pages 3 and 4. <br />Chairperson Arkin agreed with her comment. <br />Commissioner Blank noted that with respect to the Alameda County Fairgrounds on page 5, <br />some language should be added to recognize the Annual Fair and to encourage agricultural <br />gatherings. <br />Commissioner Fox noted that with respect to Historic Resources on pages 6 and 7, the <br />language should be modified to read as follows: "The Downtown and surrounding <br />residential neighborhoods contains most of Pleasanton's recognized historic resources." <br />Commissioner Blank noted that on page 8, the sports park was mentioned, but the <br />community activities goals on page 9 did not discuss sports as a community activity. He <br />would like to work that aspect into the community activities section. <br />Commissioner Fox noted that on page 10, the discussion of activities such as fanner's market <br />should include the children's fair as well. <br />Commissioner Peazce noted that on page 12, the bus shelters should be compatible with <br />walkability. <br />Commissioner Peazce noted that on page 14, the language should be modified to read as <br />follows: "Pleasanton aces embraces a broad definition of family..." <br />Commissioner Fox noted that the language on page 20 should be modified to read as follows: <br />"...maintain the scale and chazacter of the historic Downtown and surrounding residential <br />neighborhoods..." <br />Chairperson Arkin expressed concern about City entryways and edges on page 22 with <br />respect to community sign at Hopyard Road and Stoneridge Drive, which used to be at the <br />edge of town, and the sign had never been relocated once the edge of town moved. <br />A discussion of the entryway signs and landscaping ensued. It was the consensus of the <br />Commission to add a policy to construct City entry signs. <br />Chairperson Arkin believed the Downtown Specific Plan discussed improving the bridge <br />over the arroyo and did not see any policies discussing that. <br />Commissioner Fox noted the "Jack in the Box" next to a residential neighborhood and <br />suggested a policy stating that open space buffers be provided between commercial <br />development and surrounding residential neighborhoods. <br />Chairperson Arkin wanted to put more substance into this document as it relates to dealing <br />with the challenge of integrating new development into existing neighborhoods. <br />PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES September 27, 2006 Page 4 of 17 <br />
