date, a department inspector will call to datermine the reason.
If the form is not returned in a week from the telephone call, the
inspection will be conducted by a department inspector.

To control and guide the direction of the program and determine
its effectiveness, spot checks will be scheduled in approximately
10% of the businesses included in the program. Those businesses
receiving spot checks would be selected on a random basis or
because the inspection forms they returned are incomplete.

The self-inspection form is designed so that the answer to the
first eight questions should be answered in the affirmative. A
"yes" answer to these questions implies conformance with the fire
code, and therefore conformance with good fire protection
practices. A "yes" answer to the remaining questions indicate
fire hazards that require correction.

Included with the materials provided to the business responsible
is a business occupancy record. The purpose of this record is to
correct errors in the departments data base and obtain call out
information to add to the computer aided dispatch system which is
to be put in place by the police department. The information on
this record is intended to be used only for official city business
and in emergency situations.

PROPOSAL

That in order to compliment the other changes being made to update
the fire company and bureau inspection programs council adopt this
resolution establishing a self-inspection program. By so doing
the fire department will concentrate its inspection efforts on
the more techinically demanding occupancies, those mandated by the
state fire marshal's office, and those where there is a greater
potential for large life or property losses. Inspections would
therfore be broken down as follows:

Technical - 595 inspections performed by bureau inspectors,
Fire Safety - 726 performed by fire company personnel and
Self-inspection - 1,032 performed by business owners/managers.

e~~.f~~s~ted
Resp u u '

B.
