The Commissioners were further advised that a study of
gas station sites and in particular, some specific recommendation regarding the
Fairlanda Regional Shopping Center would be forthcoming.
Mr. Ned Robinson, representing the applicant, was present and spoke in favor
of the application, further stating that the regional shopping center site on
Santa Rita and Interstate X580 is one recommended on the General Plan as commercial
and is not now zoned as such.
Mr. Robinson further supplied the Commissioners with background information
dating back to the time when the area in question was in the County, at which time
there was a request for commercial zoning. Mr. Robinson also stated that the
County Planning Staff and Pla wing Commission recommended that the area be zoned
to commercial. The Pleasanton General Plan shows the area for retail business
and offices as part of the proposed regional shopping center for that area.
Mr. Robinson felt the City has a moral commitment to keep this site coa¢sercial.
The Planning staff had promised that in June, a study on service station sites
would be ready. Under those circumstances, the Commissioners felt it advantageous
to continue this item until the study on service station sites could be concluded.
- 1 -
