Vice-Chairman Landon then opened the public hearing on the application of <br />Emil Saugar for a variance from the provision of Section 7.5, Ordinance <br />No. 309, in order to construct eight duplex units on property adjacent to <br />4156 Vineyard Avenue, in an R-2 (one and two-family residential) District, <br />Mr. Saugar spoke from the audience and stated that he had presented his plans <br />to Mr. Fales earlier and also explained that for some time he has been <br />attempting to make some sort of improvement on this property that would be <br />beneficial and this seems to be the best solution since it is a long, narrow <br />lot. No one else spoke and Vice-Chairman Landon closed the public hearing. <br />Mr. Fales gave the staff report stating that the variance requested if from <br />70 to 60 feet on the frontage and from 25 to 20 feet in the rear yard. <br />It is the staff's recommendation, due to the exceptional depth and narrow- <br />ness of the property that this variance be granted, Mr. Fales pointed out <br />that this is an extremely good workable use for the property. On motion <br />of Commissioner Rega, seconded by Commissioner Antonini, the variance was <br />unanimously granted by all Commissioners.present. <br />The next matter brought before the Commission was the application of Mr. <br />Les Field, 4053 Walnut Drive, for a zoning permit to allow erection of an <br />advertising sign in C-G (General Commercial) District. Mr. Field spoke <br />from the audience stating that the building in question has been used as a <br />furniture warehouse and he wishes to reopen it as a used and new furniture <br />sales store. Secretary Fales stated that this is a permitted use under the <br />Zoning Ordinance. On motion of Commissioner Rega, seconded by Commissioner <br />Antonini, the permit was granted. <br />The next item on the agenda was a referral from the Alameda County Planning <br />Department regarding an application from Mr. Herbert J. Godfrey, 1725 Rose <br />Avenue, for a proposed addition to a single-family residence in an A-2 <br />District on a parcel reduced in area from required 5 acres to 4 acres and <br />which parcel has no frontage on an approved street. A discussion ensued <br />and it was decided that further study and information was needed before any <br />decision could be made. This matter was put over until April 19th. <br />A communication to Chairman Mitchell from Richazd J. Shepherd of the Rapid <br />Transit District was read to the Commission. There were no other communi- <br />cations. <br />For the information of the Commission, it was noted that the City Council <br />has referred a regnost from the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce for a policy <br />statement regarding off-street parking in the Central Business District. <br />A lengthy discussion ensued regarding the present situation regarding park- <br />ing and the future needs in the City. It was decided that this item should <br />be postponed until a later date in order to give time Lo gather all the <br />data possible. <br />There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:25 P.M., <br />on motion of Commissioner Rega, seconded by Commissioner Antonini, to meet <br />again on April 19, 1962 at 8:00 P.M. <br />~~ <br />
