<br />The next item on the agenda was further discussion of the application of Mr.
<br />and tSra. Cheater Rossi, 9838 MacArthur Blvd., Oakland, fora Variance from
<br />Ser.tions 8.500 and 16.602, Ord. No. 309, in order to allow development of. a
<br />loi- c~ith x?duced width and allow an accessory building on the rear property
<br />line, at 492 St. John Street, in an RG-15 District (continued from ~luguat 26,
<br />1064). Mr. Fales stated the staff has not received an application for Zo.u.ng
<br />Permit with architectural and landscape plane. The staff, therefore, recom-
<br />mends that the matter be continued. It was moved by Commissioner Lozano,
<br />seconded by Commissioner Rega, and carried, that the above matter be continued.
<br />The next item on the agenda was an informal presentation re: Development of
<br />C~C nistrict Center, Tract No. 2481 (Vintage Hills) by Mr. Ted Fairfield, of
<br />ESacICay & So}n2a, and Mr. John H. Stone of Land Development and Investment Co.
<br />Mr. Fairfield stated that a 35-acre district shopping center is envisioned,
<br />and presented preliminary sketches for viewing by the Commission. In 1965
<br />it is estimated that an adequate number of homes will be built to warrant the
<br />first phase of the proposed shopping center. Plane include terraced land-
<br />scaping, cenatruction of a fountain, supermarket, circular restaurant of ap-
<br />proximately 5,000 eq.ft., and eight modules 3,500-8,400 sq.ft. in ere.a.
<br />Covered wall~aays will surround the buildings, and the building: will reflect
<br />a modern combined with early California Spanish style. Mr. Fairfield emphasized
<br />that this will be a community or district shopping center, and not a regional
<br />shopping center. Mr. Fairfield asked for comments from the Camniaeion,
<br />whereupon the Commission indicated interest in the development.
<br />Mr. False offered to the Commissioners copies of "Ap~rtmente and Suburbs",
<br />a reseorcF, report by the International City Managers' Association, and a
<br />book titled Cluster Development, by William White,
<br />Chairman Landon inquired regarding the present status of the application for
<br />rezoning to the Alameda County Planning Commission by Volk-McLain Communities,
<br />Inc, kSr. Falea stated that the City Council has approved the City Planning
<br />Commission°s recommendation. There will be an Alameda County General Plan
<br />public hearing on September 28, and a public hearing on rezoning on Sept. 30.
